The 6 Pilates principles:
Breathing
Concentration
Control
Center
Flow
Precision
Breathing: Joseph Pilates believed that coordinating correct breathing with movement was very important in exercise. In Pilates, we inhale through he nose and exhale through the mouth. Expanding our ribs, keeping our chest and belly still.
Concentration: Make sure to concentrate on each movements, never losing focus every time you transition from one movement to the other. Develop your mind and body connection and experience what it feels like to be deeply connected to yourself. It’s amazing what our mind and bodies are capable of.
Control: Each Pilates movements need to be controlled and limited to functional range. If you have lost your core engagement, spinal posture of feel any bone/ joint pain, always male sure to come back down to re-posture your body!
Center: All movement s need ti start from the center of the your body then flow out to the limbs. Engage your core at all times! Our center consists of abdominals, back muscles, pelvic floor muscles and diaphragm.
Flow: During your Pilates sessions it’s very important for our bodies to gracefully move from one movement to the other. Using the correct form and muscles to transition into the next exercises smoothly.
Precision: Pilates is not about repetitions, speed or how strong you are, it’s about technique! Poor techniques with fast un-precise movements are not what Pilates aims for. In Pilates, precise and focused movements are the most important.
